By offering training in sustainable agriculture and income-generating activities, CREATE! ensures that our partner communities have the tools they need to work towards economic empowerment and self-sufficiency. For our beneficiaries, education provides opportunity for themselves and their families to fight poverty in rural Senegal.
CREATE! beneficiaries, including Sokhna Diop of Fass Kane, praise the practical knowledge that they have gained by participating in our village-based training programs. “The market gardening skills that I have learned have helped me make money to support my family,” Sokhna says. By selling her vegetables in the village market, Sokhna says she is “earning money to fight poverty in my community.”
Cooperative members in Fass Kane continue to use skills developed through CREATE! training. After learning how to properly raise and manage poultry in cooperative groups, more than a dozen women have also built poultry sheds at their homes. Without training and support from CREATE!, these women would not have the skills needed to raise poultry at home. Selling chickens can help women augment their incomes and support their families. Sokhna says she hopes to build her own chicken coop at home to “contribute to the food security of our village.”
